Eames Elephant

Vitra's reintroduced Eames' Plywood Elephant last year with a limited production of 2,000. Despite the absurdly high price tag, collectors snatched them up fast. This has now prompted Vitra to reissue it again in a more cost friendly version: polypropylene. Available in 5 colors...November 08. Hopefully, this one will promote actual playing and not just viewing. I think that is what Charles and Ray would have wanted.

Sagmeister/Droog Urban Play

Stefan Sagmeister's contributed to Droog's Urban Play where Droog invited 13 participants to create public artwork on the streets of Amsterdam. One of the main questions asked was how citizens would react to the works....would they contribute or alter them, steal them, or not care at all?
Sagmeister's work "My obsessions make my life worse and my work better" was made out of 300,000 cent pieces and took 8 days to produce. Visit Droog to see how it turned out......?

Top photo from Ditte Studio. Images of scrap wood transferred to wallpaper.
Bottom photos my own from a recent trip to Chicago. These were found right near Buckingham Fountain.

I am thinking my fascination with scrap wood or these palettes stems from growing up on a farm and having memories of stacks and stacks of palettes lining the shed...stacked with firewood or grain seed. Of course, ours were never this colorful.

Amy Soczka

Saw the above images via Design*Sponge , which are from the Urban Outfitters window display here in Milwaukee. I am not an Urban Outfitters fan, but am happy to see that they have used a local, independent artist to do their display. I haven't seen these windows up close yet, but maybe I will take a stroll by this weekend.
Amy Soczka has her own etsy store selling gocco prints and hand made pillows. Congrats!
