SLIM

Model for the House Tower by architects Atelier Bow-Wow.
I'd like to think that I could live in a house like this, but if I am honest most likely not.

The Black Pearl

A street in Rotterdam.  A house named the Black Pearl.
Owner and architect Rolf Bruggnik.
The only thing I know about Rotterdam is that my great-grandparents were born there.  It is a place I have always wanted to visit just to see if I could still find relatives there. Looks like I might have to plan that trip sooner rather than later.
Owner Rolf Bruggnik renovated (saved) this early 1900s home in a less-than-desirable neighborhood in Rotterdam, Netherlands.  Liking the inky exterior and that old school toilet.

Le Corbusier

The MOMA website is full of treasures and lets you view works in their collection that are not currently on display. Here are some of my favorites from Le Corbusier - both lithographs and architectural drawings.

All images above are from the MOMA collection.

Villa Tugendhat

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in Villa Tugendhat in February 1931, photograph: Fritz Tugendhat

Villa Tugendhat by Mies van der Rohe. These pictures are simply amazing. I had my fingers crossed that Villa Tugendhat would be open when I visited Brno, Czech Republic........unfortunately it is still under renovation.

Saarinen y Calatrava

I couldn't resist posting this picture of Saarinen's War Memorial Building here in Milwaukee because frankly, it is about the only good one I have seen. Milwaukee's War Memorial also houses The Milwaukee Art Museum in its bunker. Today Saarinen's building connects to the Quadracci Pavillion designed by Santiago Calatrava and the new wing of the art museum.
2 pieces of fantastic architecture right in my backyard

Barcelona Architecture

Here is Gaudi's first commission in Barcelona: Casa Vicens. A neo-moorish design built for Manuel Vicens, a wealthy tile and brick maker. I think the pictures say it best...........

Here is another Arab inspired home in Barcelona, but this one is much more traditional. Of course, I prefer Casa Vicens, but this is still well worth a look. I don't know who built this house, but it was built in Barcelona at the turn of the 19th century for an Arab prince and is now owned by a Swedish couple. I wonder if their furniture is swedish inspired and how it would look juxtaposed in this space? Regardless, the tile work and stained glass is simply amazing. Casa Arabia in Barcelona.
